No Races Are Contested in November
Qualifying for Monticello city council and mayor and Jasper County Clerk of Court ended last Thursday, at noon with no surprises.
Lynda Gasses, who had previously announced she would be running for Clerk was the only person to qualify for that position. Mrs. Gasses is the current clerk of court, having taken over when Dan Jordan resigned.
In Monticello, Mayor Bryan Standifer qualified to run for re-election as did council persons David Wease and Larry Thurman.
Voters will still be asked to go to the polls on November 7 to support an extension of the county’s one percent sales tax to fund three projects—roads and bridges, an expansion of the sheriff’s office, and recreation.
