Football Contest Starts This Week

The Monticello News annual football contest kicks off today, Aug. 31, with a slate of 15 games listed on page 9 of today’s paper.

Many readers are familiar with the format, and rules are on page 9.

However, for newcomers, it is a mix of high school, college and pro games each week. (No pro games are included this week, they will begin next week.)

Players guess the winner of each game, and write them on the entry form or a blank piece of paper, and turn it in to The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 1.

The contest will be judged as the games are played, and the winner will be notified on Monday. The winner will receive a $25 prize, and have his photo taken to be included in the following week’s paper.

This year there is a new rule. Players must be at least five years old to enter. The News feels anyone younger than that does not know what he or she is doing. Sorry.

Each player who correctly guesses the winner of at least 12 games listed has his or her name added to the honor roll. At the end of the season there will be a drawing from the honor roll for four tickets to the Peach Bowl.

The contest is made possible because of our sponsors. We ask that you support the sponsors by calling on them when you need something. It is their generosity that makes the contest possible.

So, now that you know the ground rules, turn to page 9, fill out your entry and submit it. Entries may be submitted in person at 247 West Washington Street, Monticello, by fax to 706-468-6576, or an added choice as of last year, by e-mail to info@themonticellonews.com Remember,. only one entry per person!
