Lunita ‘Nita’ Briscoe Jones
Lunita (Nita) Briscoe Jones, 89, oldest daughter of the late R.S. Briscoe, Johnnie Stevens Briscoe, and Josephine Jones Briscoe, died at Pine Pointe Hospice on Friday, September 1, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Will Jones, her sister, Nell Hendrix, and her daughters-in-love, Mary Gottschall Jones and Bev Hamlin.
She had resided in Fort Valley since 1945. She served as church secretary, membership secretary, and administrative board secretary of Fort Valley United Methodist Church (FVUMC) for 35 years, where she was a member for 63 years. She was a member of UMW and VFW wives’ club.
She is survived by her children, Bill Jones of College Station, TX, Peggy (Jimmy) Haley of Palm Bay, FL, Jimmy Jones of Fort Valley, Bobbi Googe of Haddock, and Rev. Jim (Marj) Hamlin of Perry; sisters, Colleen Clark of Lizella, Ramona Martin of Gray, and Lynda Sue (Jimmy) McMichael of Monticello; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at FVUMC Fellowship Hall, 301 West Church Street in Fort Valley. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at FVUMC, with Revs. James Hamlin,Doug Mays, and Jim Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Marshallville City Cemetery.
