Lady Cougars Defeat Gatewood

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team had another impressive performance last week in an 11-1 victory against long-time rival Gatewood.

The home win by the Lady Cougars improved their season record to 6-1 overall. Piedmont had nine hits in the game while the visiting Lady Gators were held to just three.

Maddie Morton had another impressive outing in the pitcher’s circle with eight strikeouts.

Madison Johnson, Haley Anne Frank and Cassidy Cook helped lead the Piedmont offense. Johnson had three hits and drove in four runs while Frank and Cook both had two hits.

Ava Anglin had three RBI while Hailey Hooper drove in one run.

The Lady Cougars also defeated LaGrange Academy 14-0 in four innings last Thursday in the region opener for 2017.

Tuesday’s region game against Flint River Academy was postponed due to the weather. Spivey said the game will be made up since it is a region contest.

The Lady Cougars are scheduled to travel to LaGrange Academy today, Sept. 14 for a 4:30 p.m. rematch.
