Lady Canes Vie for Region Title Today

The Lady Hurricanes varsity softball team will play today, Oct. 5 in the Region 8AA semifinals which will determine the rankings and which team and where they will play in the first round of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

With the GHSA’s four team format advancement to the state tournament, the Lady Hurricanes are guaranteed a trip to the playoffs as a result of wins last Friday in a doubleheader over Oglethorpe. The games, held at the Jasper County Recreation Department, resulted in 2-0 and 8-0 victories.

On Tuesday, the ladies took to the road to play Elbert and Banks counties who were tied for first in the region. The Lady Canes defeated Elbert 4-1 in an afternoon game and fell to Banks 4-1 later that evening.

Today the squad will play Social Circle on the road in Elbert County at 2 p.m. Head Coach Chris Jenkins noted that a win today will lead the Lady Canes to a spot in the region championship and the opportunity to enter the state contest ranked no lower than #2 in addition to hosting the first round here next week.

If by the chance the ladies falter today to the Lady Redskins, they will be seeded #3 and head on the road for the first round.
