Valdosta’s Blaxin’ Brigade To Perform Here

This Friday, Oct. 6, will be the first time in history that a university marching band will step on field and perform in the Rose Bowl Field in Monticello, Jasper County, GA. The Valdosta State University Blazin’ Brigade Marching Band will be bringing their 120 plus member band to perform after the homecoming game.
Jasper County has three Jasper County High School (JCHS) alumni that have worked tremendously hard and have earned highly respected leadership roles within the Blazin’ Brigade band program.
“I’m super excited to be taking the field one more time, now as a drum major on our Rose Bowl field,” Tristan Harper said. Harper is a music education major and has earned the first chair in the VSU Wind Ensemble.

“I am so excited to go back home and perform for my hometown,” said Cheyenne Gray. “While growing up, I trained at T&K Studios in Jackson. No one from home has ever really seen me dance, other than the 30 seconds of choreography that was in my cheerleading routines, and that was a completely different style.
This is my last year dancing, since I will be a part of the Disney College Program in the Spring, and will then transfer to Life University for chiropractic school, thus ending my dancing career,” said Miss Gray. “I am so glad that I have this amazing opportunity to show my community what I have been so passionate about for the past 18 years of my life.”
“This is my first time, since I graduated in 2014, that I have stepped back on Rose Bowl field,” said James Sampson. “This is only something that many people can dream of. I am truly honored to have this rare opportunity, to perform as Drum Major for my university, in my hometown where I also served as Drum Major in 2013.
“This is going to be an unforgettable feeling and event. I finally get to show my community live and in person, what I dedicated four years of my time in university perfecting and enjoying,” said Mr. Sampson. He is a senior studying public relations and communications.
The Blazin’ Brigade will perform following the football game. At the conclusion of the band’s performance, the Marching Hurricanes will join VSU for a combined performance of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Everyone is encouraged to go support the Blazers, this Saturday, October 7, in Carrollton, as the Blazers go against their top rivals, University of West Georgia. Kickoff is at 2 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN3.
The Valdosta State University Blazin’ Brigade Marching Band has performed and provided entertaining shows for students, fans, and alumni since 1983 and proudly upholds the traditions and values of Valdosta State University while embracing musicianship, showmanship, and creativity. Membership is open to all students regardless of major.
