Mrs. Hattie Mae Soloman Williams

A celebration of life for Mrs. Hattie Mae Soloman Williams was held Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at Sardis C.M.E. Church in Monticello. Rev. Arthur Goodman, pastor, and Rev. Preston Campbell officiated; burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born May 6, 1928 in Jasper County. She completed her 89 years of earthly life on the morning of October 27, 2017. She attended Jasper COunty Training School.

Hattie Mae was the oldest daughter of Joseph and Addie Mae Solomon. She was the loving wife of Cooley Frank Williams. Hattie Mae cherished her roles of being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and most of all al child of God. She freely shared her faith with everyone who talked to her.

Hattie Mae was known for cooking some of the bets dinner ever, baking some of the best cakes ever, and watching people enjoy her food.

Some of her favorite pasttime activities included talking on the telephone, reading her Bible, doing word search puzzles, going to church, listening to Jerry preach, talking to Carolyn at 11 p.m. every night, and baby sitting Leonie, her great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Addie Solomon, husband, Cooley; oldest daughter, Marilyn Mitchell; oldest grandson, Joseph Mitchell; sister, Betty Jeffries, and brothers, Joe Solomon and Fred Solomon.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter and bset friend, Carolyn Williams; two sons, Rev. Jerry Williams (Maxine) and Johnny Williams (Betty); five grandchildren, Mazzetti Mitchell (Natashia), Mario Mitchell, Ashley Collier, Douglas Williams and Jonathan Williams; eight great-grandchildren, Ashunti, Jaylon, Jordan, Cadien, Mia, Rihanna, Kylie, and Leonie; a faithful sister, Margaret Smith (William); two brothers, Rev. Lucius Solomon and Malvin Solomon (Rosa Lee); sisters-in-law, Rose Solomon, Lizzie Williams, and Rebecca Hubbard; son-in-law, Oscar Mitchell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

Hattie Mae was the #1 fan and cheerleader for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She treated and loved her two daughters-in-law (Maxine Williams and Betty Williams) as her own daughters and son-in-law, Oscar Mitchell as her own son. Her faith, prayers and encouraging words will be missed by many.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
