Mat Cougars Prepare for New Season

Piedmont Academy’s wrestling program enters the 2017-2018 season with a new coach.

Kaden Miller, a student at Georgia College & State University, is now directing the Mat Cougars. Miller takes over for former coach Alvin Hawkes who went into private business after leading the program for several seasons.

Miller is currently in his third year at GC&SU and is studying exercise science. He is a graduate of Union Grove High School in Henry County. He wrestled for almost five years in middle school, high school and in USA matches.

“I was fortunate enough to work with some of the best wrestling coaches in Henry County,” Miller said. “I have always wanted to coach and help kids. So I am very blessed to have the opportunity to work with these kids at Piedmont.”

The new Mat Cougars coach said there is potential for a successful season.

“I believe we are going to have a good year,” Miller said. “We have some really talented kids who are eager to learn. I think the kids are ready to get back into the groove of things and are excited to get out there and work hard. It’s early, but I’m already excited about where this season can go.”

Miller and Piedmont Academy athletic director MC Sikes are in the process of finalizing the season’s wrestling schedule.
