Canes Season Comes to an End

After securing a spot in the state playoffs, the Canes fell to the Rockmart County Yellow Jackets 47-7.

The Canes had a strong start to the game as they received the kick off from the Yellow Jackets. This led to Matt Cain (#10) throwing a touchdown pass to “Dip” Lawrence (#19). However, a failed onside kick led to the Yellow Jackets equalizing the game after scoring a touchdown. This led to a score of 7-7 halfway through the first quarter. With the given momentum, the opponents scored two more touchdowns to end the quarter at 21-7.

A defensive quarter by the Yellow Jackets led to the Canes having a difficult time to score again. Multiple punts led to the Yellow Jackets scoring two touchdowns and going into half time with a lead of 34-7.

A defensive third quarter by both teams led to deadlock play. Despite the strong defensive performance, the Yellow Jackets scored to extend their lead to 41-7 heading into the final period of play.

The Canes put on a strong performance in what was looking like their final period of play for the year. The defense looked strong the entire quarter, yet a touchdown by the Yellow Jackets ended the game 47-7.

The Canes defense completed 16 total tackles, with Gavriel McClain (#13), Akirem Walker (#53), and Chantz Watts (#56) having two tackles each. The Canes had one sack thanks to Watts. Eli Ewing (#45) had two kickoffs for 55 yards in total. Braden Lynch (#7) had six punts for 219 yards.

It was a hard fought season as the Canes closed action with a state playoff appearance.
