Winner Gets 14 Right

Hattie McMurry beat out her parents, her grandparents, and her brother to win The Monticello News football contest this week, missing only on Jefferson’s loss to Mary Persons in the high school football playoffs. Other than that she was perfect, correctly guessing the winner of 14 of the 15 games listed in last week’s Monticello News.

For her efforts, she picked up a $25 prize from Justin Dearro at Covington Ford in Covington. Hattie, who lives in Jackson, was not able to make the trip to Covington, so her grandmother, Bobbie Jean Ozburn, picked up her prize for her.

When Mrs. Ozburn was called, she said Hattie will be so excited. She said every week, Hattie asks if she made honor roll. Well, this week, she did for sure. Her grandmother also made honor roll, correctly guessing the winner of the Jefferson/Mary Persons game, but missing on the Georgia/Georgia Tech game and the Auburn/Alabama game.

A number of others also made the honor roll to have a chance, or in some cases, another chance, at the Grand Prize Honor Roll—tickets for four to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Day.

And anyone who has not yet qualified for the grand prize, needs to get busy. There’s only this week and next week left in The Monticello News annual football contest this year.

This week’s sponsor is Bulldog Gym, and the winner will receive a $25 prize on Monday from Bulldog.

All you have to do is fill out the entry form found on page 9 of today’s paper (or write your answers on a separate piece of paper), and turn it into The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 1. Then, watch the games through the weekend, and you’ll know how you scored. The contest is made up of a mix of high school, college and professional games, so no one has an edge.

Entries may be submitted in person at 247 West Washington Street, by fax to 706-468-6576 or by e-mail to info@themonticellonews.com. Remember to write legibly, and await the phone call on Monday from The Monticello News office. If we can’t reach you, you can’t win. Good luck!
