Stephen Cargile

Stephen Cargile, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.

Mr. Cargile was born September 20, 1947 in Monticello, the son of Nell Cargile and the late Bill Cargile. He was a 1967 graduate of Monticello High School, and later graduated from North Georgia Technical College. Mr. Cargile served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Monticello Presbyterian Church and also enjoyed attending New Hope United Methodist Church. He retired from PolyTech Industries in Monticello.

He was a lifelong train enthusiast, and a member of the Central Georgia Railway Historic Society. He was the world’s biggest Beatles fan. Stephen Cargile adored his family, and delighted in time spent with his grandchildren. Mr. Cargile had battled mesothelioma for the last 11 years.

Survivors in addition to this mother, include his loving wife of 37 years, Roxanna Cargile of Monticello, a granddaughter he raised as a daughter, Bethany Cargile of Monticello; two sons, Paul Cargile of Warner Robins and Sean Cargile of Nashville, TN, a daughter, Julie Cargile Cummings of Rutledge; a brother, Norman Phillip Cargile of Monticello; grandchildren, Tarah Claire Beavers of Atlanta, Ruby Sheldon Brown of Athens, Stephen Hunter Cummings of Rutledge, and Nathan Frederick Cargile of Warner Robins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. at Monticello Presbyterian Church. Rev. Kathi Parchem will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the church.
