Commission Reviews Service Delivery
The Jasper County Commission met briefly Monday evening for its first review of the Service Delivery Strategy Agreements that are due to be re-done.
According to House Bill 489, counties and municipalities must review services every 10 years, determining who should pay for the services, and who is actually paying.
The commissioners took a first look at the document, noting some things need to be changed, and others need to be negotiated. The document they are reviewing was adopted in 1999, and revised in 2006. This is the first revision since then.
The services to be considered are animal control, code enforcement/building inspection, courts, economic development services, elections, emergency medical service, fire protection, hospital, indigent defense, jails, law enforcement, libraries, mapping/addresses, parks and recreation, planning and zoning, public works, public housing, solid waste, social services, tax assessors, tax maps and tax commissioner, sewerage collection, water supply and distribution and senior citizens services.
The commissioners will meet with representatives of Monticelllo and Shady Dale in the future to discuss these issues.
