Cougars Enter State Tourney as Third Seed
Piedmont Academy’s varsity boys basketball team fell to Windsor Academy 54-40 in the semifinals of the Region 4-AA basketball tournament last week.
The Cougars, who were led by Sam Wright’s 17 points, still qualified for state and earned the No. 3 seed from Region 4-AA by defeating Thomas Jefferson Academy 72-61.
In the win, Tate Marks scored 19 points and Wright added 18. J.T. Webb also finished in double figures with 12 points. Bradley Greenwood contributed eight points and Caleb Coffey scored seven.
Piedmont was scheduled to begin play in the GISA Class AA state tournament Wednesday (Feb. 21) against Solid Rock at 5:30 p.m. in a game played at Citizens Christian Academy. If the Cougars were able to win that contest they would meet the survivor of the Westwood-Citizens Christian game on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
Earlier this week Piedmont boys coach Will Johnson said he believed his team had a good chance in the first round if it played to its potential.
