Baseball Canes Fall to Rockdale

The Monticello Hurricane varsity baseball team continued their season last week by hosting Rockdale High School that ended with a 11-0 loss to the 7A squad.

Mac Barton and Tyler Wages took the lead offensively, said Head Coach Chris Jenkins. Hunter Duke pitched the game.

“We had way too many mental mistakes against Rockdale,” said Coach Jenkins. “We had a chance to score some early runs, but failed to tag from third base. Anytime you can jump on a team in the first inning it puts a little more pressure on them, that missed opportunity allowed their pitcher to settle in and get into a rhythm.”

The varsity squad was to play Monroe Area Wednesday before hosting Lamar County today, Feb. 22 beginning at 5 p.m. On Tuesday, Feb. 27 the team will host Monroe Area for a 5 p.m. contest before traveling to Banks County for a doubleheader on Thursday, March 2 for a 5 p.m. contest.
