Thomas Loyd Burrell

Thomas Loyd Burrell, age 69, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at his residence.

Loyd Burrell was born December 2, 1948 in Monticello, Ga. He was very involved in Boy Scouts, and taught himself to play guitar using The Beatles albums. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1967, and then from Georgia College with a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

He worked for Dexter Axle before becoming an EMT and the first director of the Jasper County Ambulance Service. He later worked 33 years for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

He had a passion for trains, railroad history, and model railroads. He enjoyed boating, especially when he had his wooden Chris Craft.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lorena Burrell of Monticello; and survived by his children, Mariah (Eric) Wojdacz and Thomas Joel Burrell and fiancée, Lindsay Prince; grandchildren, Chandler Burrell, Scarlett Wojdacz, Ben Wojdacz, Isaac Wojdacz, and Sunny Burrell, all of Monticello; and brother, Ed Burrell, also of Monticello.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. Ryan Wyatt will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Burrell, Charles Brock, Thomas Burrell, Chandler Burrell, Eric Wojdacz and John Roberts. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Timmy Cargile, Barry Wyatt, Mike Cole, Billy Norris, Ronnie Armistead, Ben Ferguson and the Monticello Postal Service employees.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Jordan Funeral Home.
