Madge Carnes Roper
Madge Carnes Roper, age 89, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, at her residence.
Madge Roper was born and raised in Franklin, N.C. to the late Harley Joseph Carnes and Pallie Maybelle Welch Carnes. She and her late husband, David Arlin Roper moved to Jasper County in the late 1940’s.
“Miss” Madge was a loving caregiver to over 300 children throughout Jasper County. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Maurice Stephen “Steve” Cook.
She is survived by her children, Dewayne Cheeley of Jasper, Texas, Sue Roper of Covington, Chauveaux Cook of Monticello and Monte (Lisa) Roper of Monticello; grandchildren, Jeff Cheeley, Jonathan Cheeley, David Cook, Kip Cook, Candace C. Moore, Skye Bicket, Cassie Roper, Heather Nesler and Selena Roper; great-grandchildren, Evan Cheeley, Taylor Cheeley, Will Cheeley, Daniel Cheeley, Ashton Cook, Anna Cook, Arlie Cook, Malia Moore, Jack Moore, Alexander Bicket, Loralie Bicket, Logan Nesler, Lyla Nesler, Kohlton Skipper, Arianna Skipper and Brodie Skipper; and brother and sisters, John Clay Carnes of Oxford, Ala. Pallie Raby and Thana Smith of Covington.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. , Friday, July 20, 2018, at Talmadge Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Charles Roper will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., today, July 19, 2018, at Jordan Funeral Home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Talmadge Cemetery Fund, c/o Melba Bridges 2381 Post Road, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
