Cougars To Scrimmage Pinecrest this Friday
The Piedmont Academy football team will get a test run this week before the start of the 2018 regular season.
Coach Mike Parris will lead his team into a scrimmage against Pinecrest Academy Friday at Cougar Field. The scrimmage will begin at 7 p.m.
“The biggest thing this will do for us is allow our kids to compete against someone else,” said Parris who his entering his first season at Piedmont.
“You want to see how your players do against another team while not getting anyone hurt. This will give us a chance to see what we still need to work on.”
The event will not include any special teams play such as live kickoffs or punts.
Parris said there will not be a specific game plan for Pinecrest.
“We will be worrying about us,” the coach said.
Last week’s practice sessions were positive as the new season approaches.
“We had a productive week,” Parris said. “We were able to get in full contact work. Overall, it has been a very good fall camp.”
Cougar players are among the few in the state who are still able to practice while school is not in session. The new school year has not begun for Piedmont Academy yet.
“We have been practicing in the morning,” Parris said. “We are making positive strides each day.”
The first regular season game will be Friday, Aug. 24, also at home.
