Amanda Colvin Is First Contest Winner

Amanda Colvin is the first winner of the 2018 Monticello News football contest, and she earned her win by virtue of her tie-breaker guess.

She was one of seven players to get as many as 12 right to qualify for the prize. Her guess of 24 points on the tie-breaker was just one point off of Monticello’s 13-12 defeat of Bowdon.

For her effort, she collected a $25 prize from Ben Perry at the Bank of Monticello, sponsor of the week. She, along with the seven others, get their names on the Grand Prize Honor Roll for a chance at four premium tickets to the Chick-Fil-A/ Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

Each time a player gets 12 or more correct, his or her name is added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll. At the end of the contest, all names will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.

There are 15 games listed each week, and those with 12 or more right make the honor roll. This week, Piedmont’s game ended in a tie, virtually eliminating it from the contest. However, it’s not how many a player misses…he must get 12 right.

Nearly 150 people played the opening week of the football contest, and this week’s contest will offer more variety, as the pros are beginning play. Whoever the lucky winner is will receive a $25 prize from Tricia Armistead, CPA, sponsor of the week.

So, sharpen your pencil, peruse the games listed on page 10 of today’s paper, and remember to get your contest in to The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 7. Also, remember to write legibly, include a good phone number, and be prepared to accept the prize on Monday of next week.

Anyone can play (as long as they’re at least five years old), and anyone can win. Good luck!
