Piedmont Welcomes New Teachers, Students

The 2018-2019 Piedmont Academy school year kicked off Thursday, Aug. 30 with Open House for new students 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. and returning families attending 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Piedmont families enjoyed a three month long summer break with the first day of school being Tuesday, Sept. 4. Piedmont Academy started with 31 new students.
Piedmont draws from an eight-county area; the majority of the students coming from Jasper, Butts, and Newton County. Other counties include Henry, Jones, Morgan, Rockdale, and Walton.
Joining the Piedmont family in pre-kindergarten three-year-old class through fifth grade include: Reagan and Riley Nordstrom, Rhett Selman, Ryker Sharpless, Luke Carter, Reid Carter, Olivia Dorsey, Brock Downing, E.J. Edward, Sofia McMichael, Paylin and Prather Paulk, Jordan Williams, Kasen Martin, and Weston Webb. New middle school students include: Aubrey Hicks, John Hilliard, Emily Whitwell, Angela Gabriel, Laila Whatley, Dylan Thompson, Anna and Austin White.
High school students new to Piedmont Academy include: John Reasoner, Melanie Karoffa, Jakobe Tremblay, Jacob Ferguson, Gray Morgan, Eric Tobler, Isabel McLaurin, and Will Parker.
Piedmont also welcomed five new teachers this school year. Clint Ashmore will serve as a football coach and work in the weight room. He come to Piedmont from Mary Persons High School, with a specialist degree in education. Originally from Mountain View, GA., He attended Forest Park High School, Georgia Southwestern College, and Georgia College and State University.

Jeanie Lockett will teach first grade. She previously taught in Jasper County Charter System, and has a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State. She has been teaching five years after serving as a parapro for 10. From Conyers, she and her husband have been married for 16 years, and they have one son a dachshund, Indy.
Ashley Kennedy will teach Spanish and art, and this is her first year teaching. She has a bachelor of science degree in Spanish with a minor in art and psychology. She graduated from Georgia State University, and is from Sharpsburg. She said she loves working with special needs kids, loves cats, soccer and traveling.
Briana Bailey is a full time science teacher after working part time teaching for the last two or so years. An alumnus of Piedmont, she attended the University of North Georgia. From Monticello, she enjoys reading, arts and crafts, and her dog, Noodle.
Bo Brown will be an elementary physical education teacher and an assistant football coach. With a bachelor of arts in Journalism and New Media, from Ole Miss, Mr. Brown is from Peachtree City and is in his first year of teaching.
Piedmont Academy was founded in 1970 and has over 1,000 alumni that belong to the school’s association. Piedmont is a member of the Georgia Independent School Association.
