Herbert McKinney Hickey

Herbert McKinney Hickey, age 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Baptist Village in Waycross following an extended illness.

“Herb” Hickey was born and raised in Spruce Pine, N.C., to the late Scott and Dora Hickey. He moved to Jasper County in 1959.

Herb Hickey was an Army veteran, serving in Italy just after World War II. Upon returning from military service, he wed Glenda Radford, also of Spruce Pine. They were married for over 50 years until her passing in 2007.

Herb’s entire career was spent with the Feldspar Corporation. Mr. Hickey moved to Monticello to help start and run the Feldspar mining plant. He was active in community and civic organizations, an avid golfer and sportsman, and was a devoted member and deacon of Monticello Baptist Church.

“Mr. Herb” as he was best known around Monticello, will be missed around the town he loved, missed at church, and missed hanging out at the Dairy Queen.

He is survived by his daughters, Jan (Billy) Hughes of Waycross and Lesi (James) Anderson of Djbouti, Djbouti; grandchildren, Troy (Cory) Hughes, Scott Hughes, Carra (Brian) Greer, Libby Hughes and Matt Anderson; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Monticello Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at 3 p.m. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. David Artessa will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Hughes, Troy Hughes, Scott Hughes, Brian Greer, and Matt Anderson.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., one hour prior to the service on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at the Monticello Baptist Church.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Monticello Baptist Church 334 West Greene Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
