Tuesday Is Deadline To Register To Vote

All persons planning to vote in the November 6 General Election must be registered to vote no late than next Tuesday, Oct. 9.

This includes address changes, new voters, or name changes.

Early voting will begin Monday, Oct. 15, and continue weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Friday, Nov. 2.

The Courthouse will be open for voting on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone who has any questions about their voting status may contact Chief Registrar Carole Norris at 706-468-4908.

Voters will choose the next governor of Georgia, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and many other statewide offices. In addition, voters will vote on five proposed constitutional amendments.

Those amendments will be published in the legal section of The Monticello News beginning next week, Oct. 11, and continuing for the following two weeks.

Voters should familiarize themselves with the amendments before going to vote. There are also two proposed statewide referenda on the ballot.

The News plans to print a sample ballot before the election. Sample ballots are also available in the Probate Judge’s office in the Courthouse, as are copies of the proposed constitutional amendments.

State Rep. Susan Holmes and Sen. Burt Jones, who represent Jasper County, have no opposition. There are no contested local races.
