Mildred Mae Carter-Gotel

Mother Mildred Carter-Gotel was born on January 1, 1930 to the late Charlie H. Hill and Annie Florence Williams Hill of Jasper County, Ga. On October 3, 2018, God opened his precious arms and welcomed her home.
Mother Mildred joined the Greenwood Baptist Church where she grew in a relationship with God through several ministries, which included Mother Ministry, Junior Ministry, Junior choir and Sunday school teacher. She could be found sharing God’s word with the younger generation in the church and community. She was also the Secretary of the Emancipation Proclamation Club.

Before retirement, Mother Mildred was employed by Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta. She also worked for Script Inc. of Atlanta; Jasper Memorial Hospital in Monticello; as an insurance agent in Jasper County; and as a voter’s pole worker.
She married Howard James Carter, Jr.; and after his death, one day Ralph Gotel, Sr. came into her life and they were united in marriage.
Mother Mildred loved flower gardening, cooking, reading, and especially writing poems (My Friend Arthritis). She loved to fish and her favorite pastime was sitting on someone’s bank of a fishing hole, pond, or river, waiting for a big catch. The community of Shady Grove Baptist Church called her the “fish lady,” and would wait for her every Thursday for some of her fresh catch.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Hattie Rivers, Eleanor Holmes and Fannie Hunt; brothers, Willie A. Hill, Charles A. Hill, Harvey H. Hill, Sr., Richard Hill, Jimmie L. Hill, and Columbus Hill; and adoptive daughter, Evangelist Helen Lunford.
