Several Are Sentenced in Superior Court

Judge Alison Burleson presided over motion day in Jasper Superior Court Tuesday ruling on many civil and criminal cases in which several defendants were sentenced to confinement.

Heather Ann Hulsey, charged with 10 counts most of which are drug related, was sentenced to 10 years with three to serve in confinement but suspended upon entry into and successful completion of 12 months of Palm House in-patient substance abuse treatment program.

Charges included possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of schedule II controlled substance, two counts of possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor, and obstruction of an officer. Two counts, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug related objects were nolle prossed. Her sentenced included three years of probation and fines totaling $2,500.

Sherry Cornelia Smith was sentenced to five years with the first 60 days in Jasper County jail for two counts of obstruction of an officer, reckless driving, open container, and failure to yield upon entering roadway. Fined $2,100.

Hakeel Devont Norwood was sentenced to 12 months of probation for driving while license suspended and obstruction of an officer and fined $500. However for violating his previous probation terms with a new offense of family violence on October 5, he was sentenced to 90 days in Jasper County jail.

Probation revocations included:

James Barry McDonald had three years of his sentenced revoked to confinement for dismissal from the Next Step men’s rehab program.

Brent Beatty was sentenced to 180 days in Jasper County jail but suspended upon entry into a state probation detention center for at least 150 days and entry and completion of the Ocmulgee Circuit Accountability Court.

Judge Burleson also established bond orders for Devin Lemon and Justin Kennedy.

Judge Terry Massey presided over the arraignment and motion day dockets on October 23.

Patricia Ann Mize was sentenced to 10 years with three to serve in confinement for two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possesion of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Fined $1,500.

Devin Chase Sheffield, sentenced to 10 years with first 90 days in Jasper County jail for statutory rape and computer pornography. Fined $2,000.

William Justin Wilson, sentenced to five years of probation for simple battery and possession of firearm by convicted felon. Fined $1,500.

Billy Gene Watson, sentenced to five years of probation for crossing the guard line with contraband and possession of marijuana. Fined $2,000.

Johnny Ray Durrance, sentenced to three years of probation for two counts of possession of methamphetamine. Fined $1,500.

Ronnie Bernard Barner, sentenced to three years of probation for possession of cocaine. Fined $1,000.

Jason Todd Chapman, sentenced to 12 months of probation for simple battery, family violence and disorderly conduct. Fined $500.

Shana Marie Perez, sentenced to 12 months of probation for disorderly conduct.Fined $200.
