Long Days in Court, Long Jail Sentences
There were long days in the courtroom last week as Jasper Superior Court criminal trial week convened with six scheduled jury trials and numerous other non-jury cases reviewed by Judge Brenda Trammell.
Timothy Mark Rogers, a non-jury trial, had the harshest sentence as he was given 20 years in confinement with 10 years to serve for 12 charges including criminal attempt to commit a felony, computer pornography, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, five counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, and three counts of interference with government property. He was credited for time served since September 2016 and fined $2,000.
Clement James Abbott, who did opt for a jury trial on three charges, was sentenced to 30 years in confinement with five to serve for criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, criminal attempt to commit child molestation, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Fined $6,500.
Emilio Nava Vazquez was sentenced to 20 years in confinement, seven to serve for two counts of sale of methamphetamine, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, more than an ounce, and possession of firearm during commission of a felony. Fined $3,000.
Jose Torres Hernandez, sentenced to 15 years in confinement, will serve the first 200 days in the Jasper County jail before going on probation
for the remainder of the sentence for the sale of methamphetamine. He was credited with time served since May 2018 and fined $1,500.
Mackenzie Shayne Figueroa, sentenced to five years of confinement with the first 90 days in Jasper County jail suspended upon entry into the state probation detention center for 60-90 days for burglary in the first degree and theft by taking (misdemeanor). Defendant instructed to pay restitution of $535, obtain a Georgia Equivalency Diploma (GED) while on probation, and fined $1,000.
Jerrilyn Edwards, sentenced to five years in confinement with the first 24 hours in the Jasper County jail for driving under the influence, obstruction of an officer, crossing the guard line with contraband, and possession of marijuana (less than an ounce). Two charges were nolle prossed—driving under the influence (less safe) and failure to maintain lane. Fined $2,000.
Derrick Lamar Richardson, sentenced to 10 years in confinement with the first 90 days in the Jasper County jail for criminal attempt to commit a felony. One count of computer pornography was nolle prossed. He was credited with time served since August 2018 and fined $1,500.
Neil Alan Wolf, who had a jury trial, was sentenced to three years in confinement with the first 120 days in Jasper County jail which was suspended upon entry into the Georgia regional substance abuse treatment program. Fined $1,000.
Joseph Clinton Kirkpatrick, sentenced to 180 days in Jasper County jail for terroristic threats and acts (misdemeanor).
Ashton Michelle Cleveland, sentenced to 24 months with the first two days in the Jasper County jail for driving while license suspended and giving false information to a law enforcement officer. Three charges were nolle prossed—driving while license suspended, giving false information to an officer, and possession of marijuana. Fined $700 and instructed to obtain a GED.
Obie Lucky, sentenced to 120 days in jail for simple assault and one year of probation. Fined $300.
Anthony Smith, sentenced to 24 months with the first day in Jasper County jail for driving under the influence and simple battery, family violence. Fined $500 and must attend DUI risk reduction class and clinical evaluation.
Kinsey David Williams, sentenced to 12 months with the first 15 days in the Jasper County jail for driving under the influence (less safe). Fined $1,000
and instructed to attend DUI risk reduction class and clinical evaluation.
Richard Walter Wescoe, sentenced to 12 months with the first day in Jasper County jail for driving under the influence (less safe). Instructed to pay restitution of $100, complete a DUI risk reduction class, and fined $500.
Those receiving probation sentences only included:
Harry Lee Maddox, five years of probation for possession of marijuana. Two charges possession of marijuana and open container were nolle prossed. Fined $1,000.
Douglas Howard Fields, sentenced to five years of probation for two counts of terroristic threats and simple assault, family violence. Fined $500.
Kelvin Thomas Walker, sentenced to three years of probation for possession of cocaine, driving without a license, and speeding. Fined $2,100.
Wendy L. Bates, sentenced to three years of probation for possession of methamphetamine. Fined $1,000.
Terry Shane Parham, sentenced to three years of probation for possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. Fined $1,500.
Jennifer Trent, sentenced to three years of probation for possession of methamphetamine. Fined $1,500.
Wesley Stephens, Jr., sentenced to two years of probation for possession of methamphetamine. Fined $500.
Chelsea Head, sentenced to two years of probation for possession of methamphetamine. Fined $600.
Michael Lindsey, sentenced to two years of probation for disorderly conduct and simple battery. Fined $500.
Jason Kelly Freeman, sentenced to two years of probation for reckless driving and open container. Fined $1,100.
Lauren McDaniel, sentenced to three years of probation for possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Fined $1,500.
Defendants receiving 12 months of probation along with the standard probation terms included Kevin Jacobs, Donrico Reid, Joshua McDaniel, Charles Johnson, James Holcombe, Gerry Drake, Austin Carden, Mackenzie Johnson, Teresa Hayes, and Carey Ross.
