Contest Ends in Three-Way Tie

It probably wasn’t the first time in history, but it was the first time in a long time—a three way tie for the football contest winner, here on this final week.
Susan Spearman, Carson Gaston, and Veronica O’Brien each guessed the winner of 11 games listed in last week’s football contest. And they all three were within one point of the tie-breaker.
Bulldog Gym was the sponsor, so all three were invited there to see who got the short straw and was the winner. Karen Padgett (center) was chosen to hold the straws. Others in the photo include (from left) Stone Workman who was standing in for Veronica O’Brien (they both work at Jasper County High School), Renee Watts, gym owner, Ms. Padgett, S. Spearman, and Joel Gaston, the grandfather of five-year-old Carson Gaston who joins in the fun for this game that is a family affair.
And the winner is…Carson Gaston. The check was made out to young Carson, and grandpa assured all that he would get it to the young winner.
For the record, Green Bay beat Atlanta, 34-20, making the tie-breaker score 54. Well, Ms. O’Brien and Carson each guessed 53 points would be scored, and Ms Spearman guessed 55 points would be scored. Hence, the tie. Those who did not get the $25, did get a consolation prize from The Monticello News of a t-shirt and more.
