Light Up Monticello Parade Is Success

The Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce would like to say thank you to the community for its support “as we work together to create a new and exciting tradition for Monticello and Jasper County.
“We are excited to announce the winners of the First Light Up Monticello Christmas Parade.”

Everyone is reminded to mark next year’s date, December 14, 2019, on their calendar for the second annual Christmas parade.
Below the floats pictured are the Middle School cheerleaders, and the photos at right include, (top to bottom) Santa and Mrs. Claus with Deer Festival Queen Claire Taylor and Little Miss Fawn Alexa Barragan, MKR go-cart racers, horses, and the Boy Scouts, all from the parade. The staff at The News office would like to take this time to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will close at noon Monday, Dec. 24, and remain closed until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26. Please submit items for publication by Friday, Dec. 21 if at all possible. The paper will be published as usual on Thursday, Dec. 27.
Local government offices will be closed Christmas eve and Christmas day. The Post Office is open until noon Christmas eve, and closed Christmas day. Monticello Drugs will close at 4 p.m. Christmas eve, and remain closed Christmas day. It will re-open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26.
Ameris Bank will be open 9 a.m. to noon on Christmas eve, and Bank of Monticello will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Both will be closed Christmas day.
Coloring contest winners were not announced Saturday. They are:
First place—Chrissy Mason, ages 13 and up; Lane Mason, ages 7-12, and Paisley Deck, ages 0-6.
Second place—Dawn Johnston, ages 13 and up; Isabel White, ages 7-12, and Jasper Campbell, ages 0-6.
Third place—Jaquita Bullard, ages 13 and up; Renny Burton, ages 7-12, and Amanda Moore, ages 0-6.
Please come in anytime and claim your cash prizes.
I’m sure all the contestants join us in thanking the sponsors, without whom we could not have the contest. They were Bank of Monticello, Miss Kay’s Day Care and Learning Center, Hooper Trailer Sales, Dr. Jamie A.
