911 Dispatches 26,101 Calls
Jasper County 911 handled more than 26,000 calls in 2018, with a wide variety. The most calls listed in the end of year Total Type Report is premises check, which deputies did 3,437 times in 2018. The next most common calls was traffic stops with deputies making nearly 2,500 of those.
Other calls included some 2,300 calls for controlled burn, and deputies served 1,611 civil papers. They stopped a suspicious person or vehicle more than 1,250 times. They also directed traffic for one occasion or another more than 1,000 times. There were 983 times a subjected needed an officer for an uncategorized reason.
Deputies had to pick up prisoner or subject some 650 times, and responded to 450 mechanical breakdowns. They also responded to 454 calls for roadway hazard, which undoubtedly firefighters also responded to some of those.
The Total Type Report does not specify who responded. These numbers include all dispatched by the Jasper County 911 center.
Deputies responded to alarms some 562 times, and provided an escort or convoy some 240 times. They provided extra petrol 138 times.
As for accidents, there were 187 accidents with deer, and 215 accidents with no injuries. However, there were 84 accident with possible injuries, and 60 accidents with injuries.
Deputies provided nearly 60 courtesy rides. They also were called to assist a motorist some 478 times. They responded to 150 domestic calls, and 69 of intoxicated driver. Incidentally, they responded to 39 calls for intoxicated pedestrian.
Some 240 calls were to livestock on the road, a common problem here in rural Jasper County. They responded to nearly 200 calls of a speeding auto, and almost as many for special detail—161.
Deputies served 159 warrants, and were present for 64 repossession of vehicles. They were urged to “be on the lookout” 154 times last year.
Deputies also responded to 185 arguments, and 115 reports of a juvenile problem. One hundred eight times they had to respond to loud noise/party.
There were 127 calls to theft by taking, and 160 calls to threatening or harassing calls. Deputies responded to nearly 150 reports of vandalism.
This doesn’t begin to cover all the types of calls or all the calls, but gives readers an idea of the types of activities that keep the deputies busy.
The numbers started over in the new year, and by the time this is published, 911 may well already be dispatching its 100th call.
