John Henry Francis Dent

John Henry Francis Dent, age 88, of Shady Dale, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Navicent Health Baldwin in Milledgeville.

John Dent was born in Wrightsville, to the late William Wilkerson Dent and Avie Stapelton Dent Veal. He graduated from Brewton High School and attended Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Ga.

After 21 years of service in the U. S. Army, John retired in 1976 and served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. After retiring from the service, he worked 12 years as a store manager for Lionel Playworld.

John and his late wife, Betty Ann Carter Dent, lived in Riverdale for 21 years, and moved to Shady Dale in 1993. He was a member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Susan Lee Adams and Donna R. Chenault; and brothers, Theron Dent and William Dent.

He is survived by his son, John Timothy Dent of Shady Dale; grandchildren, Korlee Ré Adams, Chanda (Jonathan) Pitcher, Tabitha (Matt) Barber, Loral Ann (Jay) Sayre, Kimberly Dent, and Brittany Hesch; great-grandchildren; Austin Adams, Addison Pitcher, Brenna Barber, and Ayden Hesch; and sister, Ruth (John) Tyson of Dublin.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Interment was held at 4 p.m., in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 4013 GA-358, Danville, Ga 31017. Rev. Charles Carter and Rev. Ed Westbrook officiated.

Serving as pallbearers will be Randall Martin, Bradley Martin, Korlee Adams, Austin Adams, Justin Crump, Scott Carter, and Colby Edison.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, prior to the service at Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Jasper County Humane Society, Mack Tillman Road, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
