MS Lady Cougars Earn Two Wins; JV Boys Record Big Victory At Flint
The Piedmont Academy Middle School girls basketball team continued its solid play with wins against Gatewood and Flint River.
The Lady Cougars defeated Gatewood 37-26 last Thursday on the road behind a 26-point effort from Marissa Holder. Piedmont scored 14 points in the first quarter and added 10 more in the second. In the second half the girls scored nine in the third quarter and four in the fourth.
Holder scored six baskets, three 3-pointers and went 6-of-8 from the foul line.
Bailey Mobley added four points while Haiden Crews, Emma Black and Emily Whitwell each scored two points. Abby Arnold added a free throw.
The middle school girls also defeated Flint River 54-14 at home Saturday It was a balanced scoring effort as eight players recorded points.
Holder turned in another strong performance with 21 points. Arnold added eight points and Black scored six. Mobley, Alisa Gilroy and Dakota Floyd each scored two while Kristen Gilroy added a free throw.
The Middle School boys lost a close 24-22 contest to Gatewood. The host Gators used a 16-2 third quarter to help propel itself to the win.
The Cougars outscored the Gators 7-2 in the fourth quarter but came up two points short.
Spencer Carter led the team with six points while Layne Cook and Mason Owens both scored five. Chase Hadaway finished with four pints and Joe Clark scored two.
Piedmont’s junior varsity boys earned a 58-31 victory against Flint River as nine players contributed points. Cameron Mobley scored 10 points while Mason Mize and Carter both scored eight.
Jayce Wood contributed five points while Cole Wade and Ryan Reeves both scored four. Hadaway and Ethan Brewer finished with three points each and Brody Anderson scored two.
The middle school teams will compete at Covenant in Macon today, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. while the JV boys will take the court against Furtah Prep Friday, Jan. 25 at 4:30 p.m.
