Cougar Varsity Boys Continue to Win, Lady Cougars Record Two Victories
The Piedmont Academy varsity boys basketball team remains on a positive path toward the postseason as the Cougars recorded three additional wins last week.
Coach Will Johnson’s team defeated Flint River at home Saturday and LaGrange Academy on the road last Friday. The week’s action began with a road win against Windsor on Jan. 15.
Sam Wright continues his All-Star season as he scored 20 points in the 58-53 win against Flint River in region play. Ryan Holder also had a big performance with 16 points while Tate Marks scored eight and Bradley Greenwood added seven.
Clay Jones finished with four points while Brock Greenwood scored three.
Wright scored 25 points in Friday’s 63-36 road win against LaGrange Academy. Marks scored 11 points as did Brock Greenwood, who successfully made three baskets from 3-point range.
Jones added six points and Holder finished with four. Bradley Greenwood contributed two points and Cameron Mobley added a free throw.
In the 64-59 win against Windsor in Macon, Wright scored 24 points. Holder and Jones both finished in double figures with 17 and 13 points. Marks added seven points.
The Piedmont Lady Cougars defeated Flint River 55-37 Saturday as Madison McCart scored 15 points and Haley Ann Frank added 12.
Hailey Hooper finished with nine points. Also contributing offensively were Deacon Robinson (four), Jayden Young (three), Sydney Stroud (two), Haiden Crews (two), Hannah Tyler (two) and Mattie Johnston (two).
The Lady Cougars also earned a 55-36 road region win at LaGrange Academy as Hooper led the team with 15 points. McCart scored 11 points and Young added 10.
Maddie Waddleton finished with six points while Hooper scored five and Johnston scored four. Robinson and Gracie Hunt both scored two pints.
The Lady Cougars fell to Windsor Academy 44-30 despite 13 points from McCart. Frank added seven points while Young scored six. Waddleton and Hooper both scored two points.
Piedmont’s varsity teams will travel to Solid Rock Academy in Riverdale today, Jan. 24 before venturing to Furtah Prep in Acworth Friday, Jan. 25. Piedmont will remain on the road Tuesday, Jan. 29 against Oak Mountain in Carrollton. Varsity games begin at 6 p.m. each night.
