Varsity Canes Continue Region Basketball Play

The varsity Canes have a rough go off it lately on the basketball court losing their last two region competitions in very close games.

The squad, currently 3-18 overall and 2-8 in region play, fell to region foes over the past week. The squad fell 48-44 to Banks County on Tuesday and fell 41-40 to Elbert County last Friday.

The Lady Canes have continued to rack up some wins over the past week with the exception of the 40-36 loss to Banks County. Prior to that the girls garnered wins against Union, 52-38, and Social Circle, 55-29. The squad is currently 12-9 overall thus far this season and 6-4 in region action.

Regular season play will continue this week and wrap up next week with region tournament action to begin for the Georgia High School Association on February 4.

The varsity teams will travel to Putnam Friday, Jan. 25 for another region battle that promises to be exciting if it turns out anything like their last matchup that earned the boys their first win and saw the girls competing into overtime. The junior varsity squads will begin at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 26 the varsity squads will make the trek to Rabun County for competition that begins at 6 p.m.

The squads return to action at home Tuesday, Jan. 29 for Pink Out Night against Oglethorpe beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the JV boys.
