Hurricanes Prepare for AA Region Tournament

With the 8AA Region tournament set to begin Monday, Feb. 4, the varsity Hurricane squads are preparing for the Georgia High School Association event as several unknown factors are still to be determined as the teams conclude their regular season this weekend.

What is known thus far is that the boys squad will travel to Elbert County for their first round of playoffs on Monday, Feb. 4 and the Lady Canes must travel to Rabun County on Tuesday, Feb 5 for their first round matchup.

The teams will host Elbert County Friday, Feb. 1 in their final regular season game which will also be Senior Night. Junior varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. for the boys and 6 p.m. for the varsity squads.

The Lady Canes, 12-11 overall and 6-6 in the region, are currently fourth in the 8 AA region. Rabun County leads as it is undefeated at 13-0 in region, Banks follows at 9-3, Putnam is 9-4, Elbert is 6-7, Union is 5-7, and Oglethorpe and Social Circle are winless in the region.

The Canes are 4-19 overall and 3-9 in the region. In 8 AA, Elbert leads at 12-1, Banks follows at 10-2, Social Circle 9-4, Union, 7-5, Rabun and Punam each at 4-9, and Oglethorpe 1-11.

The top four teams from each region advance to the first round of playoffs, therefore performances during the region tournament matter more than the overall look of the regular season.
