Prescribed Burn Under Way

A prescribed fire will be conducted Thursday, March 7, in Jasper County. The 1,263 acre fire, which is being conducted by U.S. Forest Service, may present smoke to residents of Jasper, Jones, Morgan, and Putnam counties.

The prescribed burn is being conducted by trained practitioners to improve wildlife habitat. It is a safe way to apply a natural process and reduce the risk of wildfires, according to an announcement from the Georgia Forestry Commission. The burn should be complete by 5 p.m.
