Concert Friday Features Dance Music

Tomorrow, April 12, at 7 p.m.,. the Monticello Community Band will present Dance With Me, a concert featuring dance music from the ages. The band is returning to the newly renovated auditorium of Thomas Persons Hall where it presented its first spring history concert in 2008.
A limited number of discount tickets ($5/person and $15/family) will be available until 4 p.m., today, April 11, at the Chamber of Commerce on the Monticello square. After that, tickets will be available for $10/person.
The concert will feature polka, ballet, disco, samba and other toe-tapping dance tunes. The band will be under the direction of Jasper County High School band director Chris Savage and Putnam County Middle School band director Matt Jernigan.
The Monticello Community Band provides three concerts a year, including a Christmas Concert on the first Friday of December, a spring history concert and a free Memorial Day Concert on the lawn of Thomas Persons Hall.
The ensemble rehearses on the first and third Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Jasper County High School band room.
In addition, the band provides $1,000 scholarships to two graduating seniors each year who have rehearsed and performed with the band for at least five concerts prior to the spring concert of their senior year. Any interested student is welcome to join the band. Additional scholarship qualifications include completion of a one-page application, a 2.5 GPA, two recommendations from fellow band members and proof of enrollment.
