Lady Canes Place Sixth at Region Golf

The 2019 season was one of firsts for the Monticello High School girls golf team.

The players competed against other schools for the first time and also had the chance to compete at the Region 8-AA tournament at Chimney Oaks Course in Homer.

Ansley Hargrove had the low round for the Lady Canes at 119. Madison Smith was second with a score of 122 followed by Abigail McDaniel (132) and Laura Walsh (143). Coach Matt Hyde said Smith played very strong on the back nine of the course shooting 54.

“All of our girls will be back next season,” Hyde said. “It was a good day although it was hot. We had to deal with fatigue at the end but we kept them hydrated. I just wanted them to go out and have fun and compete. In another year or two I think they can win region.”

The Region 8-AA tournament concludes the 2019 season for the Lady Canes. Earlier in the week the Monticello High School boys golf team also finished sixth at region which was held on the same course in Banks County.
