Largest Class Ever Graduates from JCHS
Some 158 students received their diplomas during graduation exercises Saturday morning at Rose Bowl Field. Another three students received their diplomas, but chose not to walk.
After the processional, MacKenzie Tripp, senior class president, welcomed everyone, then Johnny Smith led the pledge to the flag.
Avery Jacobs then gave a brief salutatory address, saying it’s hot out here. He challenged his classmates, saying “every single one of you is capable, unique, and nobody can take that from you…So go through life, remembering to always stay true to yourself, and always remember that you are capable of success.
Valedictorian Keri Roach thanked everyone for their support so far. She talked about much, and recognized the principal and assistant principals for reminding them that “Canes can do more and be more.” She said, we, as Canes, are cooperative, accountable, and neighborly. She said, most importantly, “I would like to thank God for protecting and guiding us throughout the years.

Miss Roach talked about the cohesiveness of the class. She said,”While the past has been great, in the future there are many more things coming for us. No one but God knows what the future holds for us; I am sure it will be great. She then quoted Jeremiah 29:11. She said: “You are enough; You have an influence, you are a genius; you have a contribution to make, you are the change, your actions define your impact, and you matter.
“You all are beautifully and wonderfully made.”
Next she challenged her classmates, and quoted Maya Angelou.
She closed by saying, “JCHS class of 2019 I challenge you to dream big and achieve even greater. Again, always remain true to yourselves, remain strong and courageous, and find something to stand for and don’t back down.”
Madison Abbott, senior class secretary/treasurer made a special presentation from the class of 2019, saying we have already commissioned Mr. Scruggs and the Ag Department to build 12 new columns and a new podium which we are using today as part of this ceremony. The columns and podium are beautifully designed, and we believe they will be used year after year for special occasions at JCHS. After graduation, we will also be building a monument that will be placed at the new stadium behind the school. It is our hope that as people view this monument in years to come, they will remember with fondness the Class of 2019.
After the graduates were presented their diplomas, Miss Tripp led them in the turning of the tassel. Lastly, Kerri Bonner, senior class president of awards, gave the benediction, then the graduates filed out gathering at the end of the field where they threw their hats in the air in celebration.
