Tree Honors Memory of Helen Stone
Jasper Memorial Hospital (JMH) has planted a tree in memory of Helen Millen Stone who served in many roles at the hospital throughout her career.
Mrs. Stone was employed at JMH from 1955 to 1998. She started with general office duties, then served as assistant administrator under Annie Jordan, Lorena Burell, and Martha Davidson. She served as Interim Administrator prior to Phillip Jordan. “Miss Helen was an encourager, respected matriarch, not only at the hospital but also in her church and community,” said Jan Gaston, hospital administrator. “She had a calming effect on everyone around her. When she would get irritated or frustrated, her mouth would twitch, but she never said any harsh words.”
Mrs. Gaston closed by saying, “We dedicate this October Glory maple tree in memory of Miss Helen and it will serve as a living tribute to her 43 year career and service to JMH and the Retreat. Long may it stand, reaching ever upward, to embrace the light and warmth of heaven above.”
A number of friends of the hospital and Mrs. Stone’s family members gathered for the tribute to Mrs. Stone. Family members include (left to right) Joselyn Edge, great-granddaughter; Amanda (Fisher) Edge, granddaughter; Joseph Edge, great-grandson; Jason Childers, grandson; Joanna Childers, granddaughter-in-law; Josie Childers, great-granddaughter; Jaelyn Childers, great-granddaughter; Dewey Fisher, son-in-law; Ann(Stone)Fisher, daughter; Lee Stone—son; Jay(Stone)Childers, daughter; Johna (Childers) Artessa, granddaughter; David Artessa, grandson-in-law; Luca Artessa, great-grandson, and Ella Artessa, great- granddaughter.
