Six-Year-Old Dies in Freak Car Accident

Six-year-old Jordan Matthews was killed in a car accident last Friday, June 21 in Turtle Cove.

According to the report from the Georgia State Patrol, Master Matthews was left unattended in a vehicle in a residential driveway. The gear shifter was moved out of the park position and the vehicle began rolling backwards down the sloped driveway. The vehicle traveled across the road and into the wood line.

The child attempted to exit the vehicle through the driver’s door while it was moving and was pinned between the driver’s door and a tree. He was killed instantly, said the report.

Donations are being sought for the Matthews/Ratzel family. Those wishing to make monetary donations and/or make meal provisions for the family may visit mealtrain.com or contact Gregory Van Huss at 770-366-1744.
