Cougars To Scrimmage Friday Evening

After multiple weeks of preseason practice the Piedmont Academy football team will get a chance to line up against players from another team this Friday.

The Cougars will scrimmage Fullington Academy as part of the John Hancock Academy Classic which featured several preseason contests. Piedmont will begin play Friday at 8 p.m.

Last week was another camp-style practice setup for the Cougars. Practices were held last Monday through Saturday.

“It was a good week and a busy week,” coach Will Johnson said. “Our players embraced the task at hand and worked hard.”

Piedmont returned to the practice field on Monday of this week.

“Our players are willing to do whatever it takes,” Johnson said. “This week will be a good test run for us. It will tell us where we need to improve.”

The scrimmage arrives at a good time for the Cougars.

“All coaches wish they had more time to prepare,” Johnson said. “We will see some small mistakes and maybe some big ones. By having a scrimmage it gives you a chance to iron some things out before you play a game that counts.”

Fullington and Piedmont will play four 12-minute quarters with a running clock. There will be live special teams play.

The Cougars will begin the regular season the following Friday on the same field as the Cougars line up against John Hancock Academy in Sparta at 8 p.m.

The 2019 Piedmont Academy team remains on the road in the second week of the regular season against Monsignor Donovan in Athens.

The Cougars will play their first home contest of the 2019 season Friday, Sept. 6 against Thomas Jefferson Academy.
