Browning Benton Is Champion At Hunter Pope Country Club

Browning Benton edged out best-friend Mack Brady for the Hunter Pope Country Club golf championship last Sunday to conclude the two-day tournament.

The pair had to have a sudden death playoff on Hole #10, and Browning made par, while Mack bogeyed. Browning gave Mack credit, saying he played better, but the numbers wound up in Browning’s favor.

Both young men are teen-agers, and as best anyone can tell, Browning is the youngest player ever to win the club championship. They both shot a 74, 75 in the two days.

Browning says he may try to walk on the golf team at Ole Miss next year, but right now he has to finish his senior year of high school.

Sixteen people competed in the tournament, and Scotty Moore was the low-net champion.
