Rep. Susan Holmes Seeks Re-Election
Georgia House District 129 State Representative, Susan Holmes has announced her run for re-election to the Georgia General Assembly.
“It has been a pleasure to serve our home under the Gold Dome as I stand firm on the values our district holds dear. We have accomplished a great deal over the last nine years and I hope my efforts and voting record has earned your trust and support for another term,” Rep. Holmes said.
During her service in the General Assembly, Rep. Holmes has been a passionate advocate for fiscal responsibility, rural development, especially in the area of increased access to rural broadband, and the agricultural community, while serving as a voice for small businesses which play a pivotal role in sustaining Georgia’s economic health.
Rep. Holmes also highlights her efforts to increase government transparency and accountability. “I have worked hard to keep our citizens informed of what is happening within state government.” Rep. Holmes said. “We may not always agree, but folks will always know where I stand.”
Susan Holmes, was elected to the General Assembly in 2011 and currently serves Agriculture & Consumer Affairs – Vice Chairman; Economic Development & Tourism; Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications – Secretary; Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment – Secretary; Special Rules – Vice Chairman.
Rep. Holmes is a product of rural Georgia. She is a seventh generation Jasper Countian raised on a cotton farm in the community of Farrar in northern Jasper County. She served on the board of directors of Griffin Technical College, Piedmont Academy, and has been a member of the Jasper County Zoning Board, Jasper Memorial Hospital Board, the Jasper County Library Board, and the Georgia trust for Historic Preservation.
She was a member of the Jasper County Board of Health; Georgia College and State University Foundation Board and the Griffin Technical College Foundation Board.
Rep. Holmes served 12 years as mayor of the city of Monticello. Elected as the first female mayor, she succeeded in bringing many honors to the city along with making unprecedented progress. The city of Monticello was named one of the first ten Better Hometown Cities in the state, one of the first five Cities of Excellence, and a City of Ethics.
Susan and her husband of over 50 years, Paul Holmes, live in Monticello where they are members of Monticello Presbyterian Church. Susan is a member of the Monticello-Jasper Chamber of Commerce, Jasper County Historical Foundation, Monticello Garden Club, Monticello Civic Club, and Sergeant Newton Daughters of the American Revolution.
