JV Cougar Contest Stopped in Seventh Inning

Piedmont Academy’s junior varsity softball team hosted Rock Springs Tuesday afternoon and was on the verge of victory when two things happened.

In the top of the seventh inning Rock Springs rallied for four runs with two outs. At that point the main breaker at Piedmont’s softball complex blew and the lights went out at the field.

Emily McEwen was the starting pitcher for Piedmont with Averi Camp working in relief. Camp went into the pitcher’s circle in the fourth inning.

Prior to the seventh inning rally Rock Springs had managed just one run which came in the top of the second inning.

Piedmont scored one run in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth. The victory seemed close with the Lady Cougars holding an 8-1 lead going into the seventh inning but Rock Springs began a rally to get within 8-5.

Jayleigh Vaughn scored multiple runs for Piedmont as a courtesy runner.
