Lady ’Canes Roll Over Putnam Tuesday

The Lady Canes had a much deserved 7-1 win over Putnam County on September 17. Playing on their new home field, the Lady Canes found everything in this win: pitching, hitting, runs and defense. As the team celebrated their seniors on the team this game, the win was especially sweet for lone senior McKayla Wages.

The Lady Canes found their first run in the bottom of the third inning thanks to the bats of Taylor Rutledge, Wages and Jasmine Stone. Stone’s perfectly placed bunt sent Wages across home plate for the run.

Two more runs came for the Lady Canes in the fifth when Rutledge and Wages again started off the inning with their second singles in a row. Rutledge went on to score on a ground out by Stone and Wages scored on a wild pitch.

Four runs in the sixth inning brought it home for the Lady Canes. Kate Robinson singled, Allie Jones laid down a bunt and Azure Guli singled to center field. Jenna Parrish and Wages, her third single of the game, singled to finish out the inning. After a sacrifice by Jenkins advanced Robinson to third, Guli’s single then scored Robinson to start off the runs in the inning.

Bailey Jenkins destroyed it on the mound going seven innings, with three innings of three up, three down, and allowing one run on four hits, walking zero and striking out seven. Wages went three for four at the plate.

Rutledge had two hits and Avery Barton, Robinson, Guli and Parrish each had one. Stone finished the game with two RBI’s. Wages, Guli, Parrish and Rutledge each had one RBI.

Senior McKayla Wages was honored after the game. Escorted by her family under a canopy of softball bats held by her teammates, she was introduced to the fans and presented with a bouquet of roses.

On September 12, Rabun County ran away with the win, 9-2. The Lady Canes, playing in Tiger and out hitting Rabun County nine to six, had the hits but couldn’t come up with the runs.

The first and fourth innings were too much for the Lady Canes. Rabun County racked up four runs a piece in those innings while the Lady Canes had one run in the first and one in the top of the third as their only runs.

Getting hits for the Lady Canes were Stone, Barton, Robinson, Jones, Bailey Jenkins and Treauna Jacobs, with Jones having two RBIs. Barton was the losing pitcher, going three and a third innings, allowing three hits and nine runs while striking out five. Robinson and Jenkins also pitched in from the bullpen.

On September 11th the Lady Canes played Social Circle in a weather cancellation rematch and came out on top 6–3 with eight hits and six runs . Winning pitcher Jenkins went seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs while walking two and striking out two. She added to the win by going two for three at the plate with one RBI.

Barton put the Lady Canes on the scoreboard with a double in the first inning that scored Stone, on base with a walk. Barton crossed the plate next thanks to a line drive single to center field by Jones.

The third and fourth innings each brought two more runs to the Lady Canes to give them the 9-2 win. Jones went three for three, Barton and Jenkins had two hits and Stone, Robinson and Rutledge had one.
