Lady Cougars Eager for Rematch

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team had been idle for more than a week before returning to game action this week.

The Lady Cougars last took the field on September 10 in a 13-2 win against non-region foe Central Fellowship. Piedmont was scheduled to play against Westfield on Wednesday of this week and will host LaGrange Academy today in a key region match-up.

The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors upset the Lady Cougars in a match-up from earlier this season 6-1. After rebounding to defeat Flint River in region play Piedmont players and coaches have been looking to the second contest against LaGrange set for 4:30 p.m.

“We just didn’t play well the first time,” coach Joe Johnson said. “We like our chances if we play the way we are capable of.”

A win by the Lady Cougars would likely create a tie for first in the region which would mean a one-game winner-take-all contest down the road.

Despite the disappointing loss to LaGrange last week Coach Johnson said he was pleased to see his team bounce back with two wins.

Wednesday’s matchup with Westfield was a non-region contest against a Class AAA opponent. Johnson said facing a quality team such as the Lady Hornets would benefit the Lady Cougars.

A scheduled junior varsity softball game last Thursday against Strong Rock was cancelled since Piedmont’s varsity football team played that night.
