Bobby Jacobs Seeks Mayor Pro-tem Post

Bobby Jacobs of Monticello has announced his intention to seek the office of Mayor Pro-tem.
“My announcement to seek election as Mayor Pro-Tem of Monticello is not a decision I take lightly. It has been both humbling and very exciting to serve my community in so many different capacities over the years. While I may not always make the decisions that are embraced by everyone, there is never a doubt as to where I stand on the issues of the day.
“As your Mayor Pro-Tem, I will always make every effort to represent all citizens of Monticello. At times I will have to make difficult decisions that will affect all of us the same, my family included. I will consider all options and make informed decisions.
“I ask voters to join me on our path towards a better future. We have so much to be grateful for and proud of in Monticello. Much can be accomplished if we do not care who gets the credit. I am ready to use past experiences of serving you for four years as your city councilman and four years as your Mayor Pro-Tem to make Monticello a better place to live, work and play.
“There is always room for improvement and I ask that you allow me to continue to build on the eight years of positive change I helped usher in while serving on the Monticello City Council.
“Let us push the envelope farther and allow opportunities for improvement to flourish like eliminating city property taxes, solving the traffic congestion on the square, renewing our desire for an improved city infrastructure, working to re-negotiate or break the city’s 50 year power contract, promote tourism, and reestablish city activities that promotes community.
“These are just a few goals I hope to achieve as your Mayor Pro-Tem with my proven track record of involvement, commitment, and achievement.
“The citizens of Monticello deserve the most qualified person to fill the seat of Mayor Pro-Tem this January. I am a certified councilperson from the Georgia Municipal Association. I have a total of 17 years experience of public service. I am certified in Robert’s Rules of Order and made it a priority when serving Monticello to know the rules and regulations in the city ordinance book. My experience as a small business owner has given me the knowledge and ability to handle the budget and personnel issues pertaining to city business.
“I am a leader who trusts my constituents to make sound decisions; it’s not about more government control. I am a leader who is inclusive; not pushing personal agendas. I am a leader who is, but one vote, on a council of six and not one who cannot move forward should my vote be in the minority.
Finally, I am a leader who considers everyone to be on the same team.
“I have worked to avoid division and dissension. The best example of leadership is leadership by example. I have worked to the best of my abilities to ensure that the image of Monticello is one of dignity, respect and cooperation. We are all residents of Jasper County.
“Remember, leadership is not a destination, it is a decision. A leader must possess sound judgment and the skills necessary to build a consensus. A leader will finish the job required of him/her and not quit when things get tough. The choice is clear; I am the most qualified candidate for continuity and leadership for our city. Together we have made a difference and together we will continue to do so. I ask for your support and vote this November.”
