MS Lady Cougars Earn More Big Wins

It was two more games and two more big wins for the Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team.

The Lady Cougars posted a 14-0 victory against Gatewood last week. Piedmont jumped out to a lead right out of the gate with five runs in the first, four in the second and five more in the third.

Offensively Piedmont compiled 11 hits while limiting Gatewood to six.

Bailey Mobley and Jayleigh Vaughn both had two hits while Kristen Gilroy and Vaughn both drove in two runs. Carly Meredith also had an RBI.

Marissa Holder also contributed offensively to the big win.

Emily Whitwell was a standout in the pitcher’s circle earning the win and striking out four batters.

The Middle School Lady Cougars also defeated Creekside 13-1 on Tuesday in a road game in Stockbridge.

The game was scoreless after the first inning before Piedmont scored four runs in the top of the second inning. The Lady Cougars then added three more runs in the top of the third and six more in the top of the fourth.

Creekside’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Mobley and Ellie McCart both had two hits to help pace Piedmont offensively. Carlie Wilbanks and Carly Meredith both drew walks.

Holder drove in two runs with Abbey Phillips and Mobley both having an RBI.

Whitwell earned the win recording five strikeouts and allowing just three hits.

The Middle School Lady Cougars will host Creekside in a rematch Monday at 4:30 p.m. Piedmont’s junior varsity softball team will then play Creekside at 6:30 p.m.
