Cougars Return To Action Friday

The Piedmont Academy varsity football team will be on the road this week as the Cougars travel to Terrell Academy in Dawson.

Piedmont was off this past Friday and spent the week working on the basics while also beginning to game plan for this Friday’s contest.

“Terrell is a talented team,” said coach Will Johnson. “They have decent size and a lot of depth. They run a spread offense like us. Since they use similar formations I am hoping that will help our defense since they see it in practice each day.”

Terrell Academy also runs similar defensive schemes to the Cougars.

“It’s really like we are looking in the mirror,” Johnson said.

The bye week was beneficial for Piedmont as players had a chance to heal from various injuries. Tate Marks who suffered a shoulder injury in the last game for the Cougars is expected to play this Friday but will be limited in practice.

“We went back to game week preparations on Monday,” Johnson said. “It is strange having two bye weeks this season. However from here on out we are playing until the end of the season. We are eager to get the second half of the season started.”

Terrell enters the game 3-3 overall with wins against Westfield (34-7), Brookwood (19-15) and Flint River (40-6). Losses have been to Tiftarea (33-7), Edmund Burke (28-12) and Gatewood (60-21).

With his team off Johnson was able to scout the Terrell-Gatewood game in person last Friday.

Piedmont will have to deal with the long road trip for the contest.

“For us it’s all about continuing to work and continuing to improve,” Johnson said.

The Cougars will look for more solid offensive productive. In the team’s last game Chris Pittman had 330 total yards of offense. Owen Brady had six catches for 144 yards and also threw a touchdown against Southwest Georgia.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

NOTE: The Cougars junior pro football team is scheduled to return to the field today against Rock Springs.at home beginning at 6 p.m.
