Contest Is A Battle of the Tie-Breakers

HEADMASTER CLINT WELCH (L), DEANNE GREENWAY

It was a battle of the tie-breakers. The top three contenders in The Monticello News football contest last week had 13 right, and were within three points of each other on their tie-breaker guess. A fourth person had 13 right, but was further off the tie-breaker.

Only one player in the contest, Ellis Ammons, picked South Carolina to beat the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday, and he missed on several others, so he did not even make honor roll.

Jackson Greenway had 13 right and guessed that 52 points would be scored in Terrell’s defeat of Piedmont, 49-12.

For his efforts, Jackson picked up a $25 prize from Piedmont Academy. Jackson, who graduated from Jasper County High School last year was unable to get off work to collect his prize. His mom, DeAnne Greenway, picked up the prize for him from Headmaster Clint Welch at Piedmont Academy.

The whole Greenway family plays the football contest every week, and this is the second brother to win, so the competition gets more fierce.

Right behind Jackson was Janice Arnold who is on the honor roll multiple times. Mrs. Arnold got 13 right and guessed 51 points would be scored in the tie-breaker game. Keith Mason also got 13 right, and guessed 49 points would be scored. Lastly, Joel Gaston had 13 right and guessed a lower tie-breaker.

Another 17 players had 12 right to also get their names added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll or perhaps just another chance on it. The honor roll is already quite long, but there’s lots of time ahead to get your name added or another chance added for the grand prize which is four tickets to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta. So turn to the contest on page 10 of this week’s paper, and complete the entry form, or write your answers on a separate piece of paper, and submit to The Monticello News no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 18.
