Janet Davis Wins Contest With 12 Right

Picking the winners of the football contest got a little harder last week, apparently, as it only took 12 correct picks to win the contest, and only nine players got that many right. Mrs. Janet Davis did get 12 right, however, and was closest on the tie-breaker with her guess that 35 points would be scored in Piedmont’s win over Flint River.
Other players that got 12 right and will have their names added to the grand prize honor roll include Tameka Davis, Hattie McMurry, Lyric Arnold, Marshall Bunce, Stephanie Pittman, Hannah Greenway, George Rae, and Madison Rae.
For her effort, Mrs. Davis picked up a $25 prize from Adam McGinnis at Southern Edge Farm & Home, sponsor of the week.
Mrs. Davis is a faithful player, and has won before, but it’s been a long time. Her husband, the late Roy Davis, was a big sports fan, and faithful player of The Monticello News football contest. She has played at least since he died in 2005, if not before.
It was a good week for the local teams with Monticello and Piedmont both winning, along with the Georgia Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets upsetting Miami. Most people missed that one on the football contest, as the Jackets were 18-point underdogs. The Atlanta Falcons continued their losing ways, and that didn’t surprise a lot of people.
Mrs. Davis was surprised when she heard she won, as she was thinking she missed four. She didn’t. So, she now has her name on the honor roll for a chance to win four premium tickets to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta on December 28.
This week players have another chance to win a $25 prize and/or get their name on the grand prize honor roll. The sponsor is Bulldog Gym. So sharpen your pencils, turn to the contest, and complete your entry. Submit to The Monticello News by e-mail, info@themonticellonews.com by fax, 706-468-6576, or in person at 247 West Washington Street, Monticello.
