Mrs. Mable Nash Bly

A celebration of life for Mrs. Mable Nash Bly was held Saturday, Oct. 26, at St. John A.M.E. Church in Eatonton. Rev. Wayune Griffin, pastor, was eulogist.

Mrs. Bly was born May 3, 1946 in Eatonton to the parentage of the late Rev. Willie Frank (Bud) Nash, Sr. and Mrs. Eva Fleurnoy Nash, Putnam County, Eatonton.

She entered into eternal rest early Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta at the age of 73. Mrs. Bly was the third of seven children. She grew up in Putnam County, and attended Butler Baker School in Eatonton, with the class of 1964. She joined St. John A.M.E. Church at an early age and served faithfully as an usher until her health failed.

She married (John) Lewis Bly on November 6 and they were married for almost 57 years. She had a strong love of family and friends and never met a stranger. She was employed in various occupations in Eatonton, but mainly she was a homemaker to her husband and five children.

She was an excellent cook, always trying new and different recipes, and she was known for hosting huge Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her home. She always prepared extra sweet potato soufflé for her son in-law, Randy. She loved shopping and doing word search puzzles.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Putnam Chapter #34 OES, American Ladies Legion Auxiliary, Post 583, and Magnificent Women.

Mable will be remembered as a loving wife, mom, grandmother, nourisher, sister, and sister-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, whom she adopted and reared as her own: Shantera Bly; her parents; three brothers, James Harris, Willie Frank (Bill) Nash Jr., and Roy Nash; two sisters, Jewel Nash and Lizzie Mae Nash.

She is survived by her husband and children; three sons Douglas Bly, San Jose, Calif., Danny (Lisha) Bly; Milledgeville, and Vincente (Rhodina) Bly, StoneCrest; three daughters, Pamela Moody, Eatonton, Gayle Bly Biggs (Randy) and McKenzie Leigh Bly, Charlotte, N.C.; two stepchildren, Frank Cartright of Seattle, WA and Melissa Swint (Fritz) of Atlanta; one brother, Phillip Nash (Linda), Eatonton; a sister, Louise Nash (Henry Lee), Eatonton; eight grandchildren, Joseph Moody III, Alexandria Biggs, Germaine Bly, Justin Bly, Maddison Bly, Maylen Bly, Alexis Bly and Crystal Mattox; six great grandchildren, who lovingly remember their NeNe; three brothers in-law; James Bly (Brenda), Covington, Frederick Bly, (Sandra) Boston, MA, and Harold Bly, Eatonton; two sisters in-law, Ruby Bly Halcomb, Decatur and (Iola) Ruth Bly (Harvey) Reid, Carrollton, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends who will cherish her memories.
